About the Client
Our client is one of the UK's leading suppliers of chilled, ambient and frozen cakes, components and dessert products to the multiple retail and food service sectors. The company has a tradition of supplying superior quality products, meeting the highest standards of customer service, since its incorporation over 25 years ago.
Our client has an on-going programme of product innovation and development and is constantly improving its production standards and efficiencies. To meet increasing capacity and capability within the existing factory, we are seeking a project engineer/manager who can handle the on-going capital equipment procurement and installation programme.
The Role
The project management role is to focus on the development of equipment layouts within the factory, to secure safe and hygienic operating conditions, incorporating the latest technology for production at a level of operating efficiency consistent with quality and production costs KPIs, including:
- Layout development, in co-ordination and consultation with sales, production and maintenance / facility management, and equipment suppliers
- Specification of new equipment to meet production/sales planning forecasts and provision for routing/connection of services and utilities to new equipment
- Budget and schedule control for new capital plant and facilities upgrades
- Procurement of new equipment and building/utilities changes in consultation with preferred contractors, including preparation and issue of tender documents, evaluation of quotations and negotiation/placing of contracts.
- Supervision of site work, with particular attention to site safety and maintaining of existing production in a clean/isolated environment.
- Administration of contracts, approval of variation orders/payments, holding site meetings, preparing and issue of management reports
The Interim Project Manager, Personal Qualities/Professional Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the ability and experience necessary to co-ordinate all inputs and to deliver the project within the agreed time/budget targets and performance/quality criteria. The candidate will be educated to HNC or degree level, in an engineering discipline, probably mechanical engineering. Hands on capability of producing plant and services layouts, using a recognised CAD package will be required.
At least five years practical experience at project management level in the engineering and management of industrial projects is required. The project manager must be a confident leader, a good people manager and team builder, with a persuasive personality. He/she must be primarily an achiever, able to obtain results and able to communicate effectively at all levels, both inside the company and externally, with suppliers, local authorities, etc.
