Overview
Our client is a UK-based market leader in the manufacture of high alloy wear resistant components and consumables. They are seeking a Engineering Quality Manager to manage the technical function, supporting the retention of existing business and supporting new business growth. This is a demanding customer facing role in a growing area of our client's business.
Person Description / Qualifications / Experience
The successful candidate is likely to be degree qualified in metallurgy, or a qualified mechanical engineer with extensive post graduation experience in metallurgy, possibly with a period working in a research and / or development laboratory. Experience of welding technology and surface coating technology, would be an advantage.
The successful candidate will have good people skills and will be able to adapt readily to a team environment. This is a customer facing role and candidates will be able to demonstrate a professional approach and to maintain high technical standards consistent with the demands of the company and the sectors and markets within which it operates.
Duties / Responsibilities
Supporting the retention of existing business
- Assisting customers and the sales teams with technical enquiries, for example, selection of the correct alloy for a particular application, finding specific property data needed on a particular alloy, or assistance with a welding problem being experienced by a customer who is using our welding consumables.
- Managing the technical files and the legal requirements relating to Ni and Co based alloys.
Supporting new business growth
- Assessing the technical requirements related to potential new work and advising the sales team regarding feasibility. Planning and conducting any development work required before the work can be accepted.
- Planning, monitoring and documenting weld procedure qualifications for new weld overlay contracts to a variety of international and customer specifications (including designing suitable post-weld heat treatments for a variety of steels).
- The compilation/revision of work instructions to meet the requirements of new customers (or the new requirements of existing customers).
- Ongoing improvement of existing working practices including the purchase of new production and testing equipment as required.
- Assisting the quality manager with closing out of NCRs from internal or external audits.
- Preparing for NADCAP approval in for mid-2008 (including upgrade of metallurgical laboratory and associated capex requests.
Other responsibilities
- Act as the custodian of the company's technical alloy data.
- Prepare alloy data Sheets and FAQ documents when requested.
- Ongoing work in collating all technical data into centralised database sources.
- Ongoing work in improving the technical specifications within the company.
- Involvement in other projects as and when required.
- Such other duties as are appropriate for the Engineering Quality Manager as a member of the Management Team.
