The interim operations manager role involves management of all supply side functions within a manufacturing company. Responsibilities will typically include:
- production scheduling and management
- staffing, personnel development and training
- equipment operation and maintenance
- quality control and inventory control
- demand/supply chain and logistics
The interim operations manager will normally have financial responsibility for all of the production and support functions associated with product delivery. The interim operations manager may report to a general manager, or directly to the managing director or chief executive officer.
The interim operations manager will be responsible for the management of all manufacturing operations, processes and systems, support services, warehousing and distribution of products and services. He/she will develop and implement plans for the efficient use of materials, labour and equipment to meet production targets and plan and manage the departmental budget.
The interim operations manager will be responsible for development of production schedules and maintenance of inventory of raw materials and finished products, also for planning and implementation of changes to machinery and equipment, production systems and methods of working, quality control inspection systems and production reporting procedures.
He/she will be responsible for the implementation of maintenance schedules and recommendations for the replacement of machines and equipment. Interim operations manager responsibilities will also include the recruitment and training of employees in the use of new equipment and processes.
