Interim Operations Management
Redmayne operates as a specialist executive resourcing company within the manufacturing and process industry sectors in the UK. Within these industry sectors, the interim operations management function involves management of all supply side functions within a manufacturing or process company.
Responsibilities within the scope of the interim operations management function will typically include production scheduling and management, staffing, equipment operation and maintenance, quality control and inventory control, demand / supply chain and logistics. The interim operations management function will normally include financial responsibility for all of the production and support functions associated with product and service delivery.
Depending on the size and structure of the company and whether it is part of a larger group, the interim operations management executive may report to a general manager, or directly to the managing director or chief executive officer.
Interim Operations Management - Techniques and Controls
Most of the techniques used within the interim operations management function will relate to the effective definition and use of systems aimed at the control of processes and production, with the establishment of KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) as a means of tracking performance within the business and then making the necessary improvements on a regular basis. Whilst most of our interim operations management personnel will be familiar with methodologies such as Value Stream Mapping, Lean Manufacturing, Benchmarking, Kaizen etc, the essence of better operations performance will be underscored by producing performance data which can be readily understood by the workforce, supported by regular briefing meetings, and reinforced by formalised training and development programmes.
The work which our interim operations management people handle is thus primarily associated with motivating the workforce, to clarify objectives, to produce better work instructions, to eliminate capacity constraints, by better resource allocation and more efficient use of resources, supported by improved scheduling, product flow and planned maintenance systems. Our interim management staff will be expected to focus on strategic issues such as facility and IT systems development and demand and supply chain improvement, within the context of the strategic objectives for the business. These strategic issues can usually be handled effectively as projects, by our operations management interims.
