Position General Manager
Sector Bespoke Kitchen Furniture
Location West Midlands, UK

About the Client

Our client is an independent private limited company, established in 1988. The company supplies quality bespoke kitchen furniture, principally to independent retail outlets and studios. The company has grown rapidly and has, in recent years, been listed amongst Europe's 500 fastest growing companies.

The company has, in 15 years, consistently delivered an innovative range of quality products, backed by a high level of customer service.

The next phase of development was to exploit the opportunities of ERP for inbound logistics and materials control.

Background to the Assignment

For many years, the company has also been manufacturing high quality bathroom furniture and marketing these products through a trading division.

Early in 2005, the bathroom business began operating as a limited company to enable it to continue to grow independently, thus taking full advantage of the opportunities for the development of this product sector.

To support further expansion, the bathroom company moved to occupy a modern factory, where it now assembles bathroom cabinets from bought out components and manufactured panels.

Key Aspects of the General Manager Role

A key part of the role was to maintain manufacturing performance to ensure timely delivery of quality products. KPIs will be developed across the business. These are primarily financial at present, but operational KPIs are also required.

Other (immediate) key requirements will involve ensuring the foundations are in place to enable the company to attain the next growth phase, this will include additional space/relocation, new products and markets and a suitable IT system.

Candidate Acquisition

We advertised the role nationally and drew upon our extensive candidate database and network of suitable managers who met the job specification and were interested in the role.

We interviewed the short listed candidates and selected a group of outstanding managers who met the client's requirements and presented these for further interviews at the customer's offices.

Selected candidates were psychometrically tested and results presented for final selection and a job offer to the best candidate.
