About the Client
The client company is an established leader in exploration and production in the oil and gas sector worldwide. The company operates in Algeria, China, Qatar, Brazil, Indonesia, Mozambique, Trinidad and Sub-Saharan Africa.
In Algeria, the client has a Production Sharing Agreement with Sonatrach. Since drilling operations began in 1991, our client company has discovered 15 fields that contain more than 2 billion barrels of oil. Production from these Algerian discoveries - about 450,000 barrels of oil per day (gross) - makes our client one of the biggest foreign oil producers in the country.
Scope of the Recruitment Assignment
Our role was to identify experienced planning engineers with a background in the oil and gas sector. An essential requirement for this assignment was expertise in the use and operation of Primavera P3 planning, scheduling and control software, as applied to the oil and gas and petrochemical industries.
The market for planning engineers has been very tight, as existing planning resources have been in demand from companies in the oil and gas, rail, construction and nuclear sectors, both in UK and overseas. The increasing price of oil has encouraged many exploration and processing companies to exploit previously uneconomic fields, which is adding to the general pressures of recruiting in a buoyant market environment.
Candidates were sourced from an extensive telephone campaign, during which we identified overseas oil and gas sector personnel, with relevant planning expertise, or knowledge of colleagues within the oil and gas sector, who might be interested in an assignment working for an organisation that has a deserved reputation for looking after its overseas staff.
We were able to identify a short list of planning engineers with the required expertise, who were about to be renewing their existing assignments and who were looking for a challenging new role. CVs for applicants who matched the job specification were reviewed in detail and a short list of suitable candidates prepared and issued to the client. The final selection/interview of candidates and job offer was then handled by the client.
