Interim Production Manager introduces Quality and Operations Improvements

Our client on this assignment was a leading manufacturing company in the production and distribution of electrical components. The completion of an automated production line installed for switchgear assembly, was running behind programme and line outputs were lower than specified in the automation line supplier contract. This complex interim management assignment started with a simulation model of the new production line. Redmayne collected the process and plant data, set up the model and ran the simulation. The simulation study was designed to confirm whether the client specification was workable and this proved to be the case. The simulation process and modelling work provided an effective method of running the subsequent implementation and production improvement programme, which centred around key supplier and client issues.

Our interim production manager produced a programme for production line upgrade and re-commissioning, leading to an effective resumption of manufacturing operations. Key items were the re-engineering of unreliable plant items and a need to improve component quality, line operation and engineering / maintenance services. Our interim production manager supervised the line upgrade, the commissioning and performance test programme and the run up to full production. On conclusion of the interim management programme, the line was successfully re-commissioned and performance tested, with a 25% increase in manufacturing output.
