Interim Project Engineer handles Food Processing Plant Expansion / Upgrade
Our interim project engineer developed the scope of work for this manufacturing expansion and upgrade programme, in conjunction with the client - a leading food processing company. The project included a survey of the existing building allocated for expansion and a review of access, space, services, building work, etc, required to adapt the facility for food production; also an overview of the new plant schedule and space allocation within new facility.
- Our interim project engineer developed the plant layout with the client and advised on additional services and building work to meet Building Regulations
- Our engineer advised on special needs to meet Environmental Health / Food Hygiene Standards; manufacturing Quality requirements for customers, and ISO 9002 compliance
- He also assisted with the procurement of equipment and the programme for building and plant modifications
The work was handled by Redmayne under the auspices of the Technology Audit Scheme, which was run initially by the Industrial Research and Technology Unit of Industrial Development Board in Northern Ireland, later Invest Northern Ireland. This scheme was successful in helping many SME companies to acquire and upgrade their technology in the drive to become more competitive in local and export markets.
Outcomes
This food processing company client is now manufacturing cream cheese for the retail market at an increased volume, to meet expanding market demand from the food retailers. The standard of the food manufacturing environment has been improved to meet the exacting procurement and supply chain parameters set by the multiples. The project has helped the end user to diversify from what was initially a milk processing operation, into a range of higher value added products.
