Interim Project Management, Quality Control

Introduction

This section covers the principles of maintaining control of quality during the implementation of industry projects, involving the manufacture, installation and commissioning of plant and equipment and the associated building, civil and technical/electrical works.

Redmayne has a good track record in the procurement and management of factory relocation projects. We can advise your project team on quality control strategy and methodology. We can supply an experienced interim quality manager or interim quality engineer to support your project programme, if required.

Quality control of building, civil and mechanical/electrical works is normally exercised against the specification for the work established by the architect and/or engineering consultants appointed for the work. It is important to establish these standards independently, even if the work is to be carried out under design/construct contract(s). Reference is usually made to British Standards and Codes of Practice and the drawings for the work, for materials, workmanship, and testing.

Quality control of plant and equipment is normally exercised against the specification and the performance parameters. The specification and performance requirements should be drawn up by a member of the client manufacturing or production engineering team to ensure compliance, i.e:

  • Components to be processed
  • Production rate to be achieved
  • Maximum allowable downtime
  • Maximum allowable scrap and re-work
  • Quality standards, including BS or equivalent specifications, certificates required by law etc.
  • Environmental factors
  • Maximum manning levels
