Interim Project Management, Capital Projects

Many of our clients are faced with the need to improve and to streamline business performance, e.g. by the introduction of new technology, capability or capacity uplift or maximising savings from geographical location, running cost, labour cost and other economies.

Redmayne has extensive expertise and a good track record in the planning and management of such projects, which include factory relocation, expansion, upgrading and business relocation.

We can supply an experienced interim project manager and the interim project management personnel required to handle this work.

Project Preliminaries

Initial planning and feasibility will be based on an evaluation of the costs and benefits of a proposed facilities project and a calculation of the rate of return on investment for the various options. This should be accompanied by a detailed risk analysis to establish the sensitivity of costs and timing.

Cost estimates and schedules must be drawn up for the selected options before proceeding. Good layout development is an essential step in the option evaluation process and the subsequent agreement of the production facility strategy by management.

Once an option has been chosen, further detailed planning is then required to finalise layouts, specifications of any specialised equipment and building work.

Project Implementation

Where in-house resources are not available, tried and tested contractors and suppliers should be appointed. Part of the project delivery team's job will be to prepare and issue enquiries to contractors and suppliers, to evaluate respones, and appoint the companies that will carry out the work.

The local authority should be approached for the necessary permits and approvals, especially if new building works are required. Utility authorities should be contacted for the up-rating and connection of services.

Detailed documentation will be required to demonstrate compliance with safety, construction, fire, building and other regulations. If this is outside the scope of the client's capability or capacity, professionals can be appointed to assist, alternatively contracts can be placed on a design-build basis.

The interim project manager's task is to obtain approval for all aspects of the scheme from the nominated client team, to issue enquiries for execution of the work, to negotiate works contracts and to oversee implementation of the work programme.

The interim project manager will monitor and control safety, quality, cost and timing aspects and keep the client informed of progress.
